The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO) is continuously pouring out farm inputs, seeds, and livestock as rehabilitation assistance to farmers affected by typhoons Pepeng and Ondoy.

Provincial agriculturist Lolita Bentres said UNFAO handed a total of P6.1 million worth of organic fertilizers, certified hybrid rice seedlings and vegetable seeds, including piglets for distribution to typhoon-affected beneficiaries.

Bentres said approximately around a total of P20 million worth of agriculture and irrigation inputs and materials, and aquaculture and livestock assistance were already accorded by UNFAO.

Other donors have also extended assistance to all the 13 towns of the province.

The project is in response to the series of natural disasters and to complement the ongoing efforts of the government to restore and strengthen food security of the worst affected vulnerable farming and fishing communities.

The project is aimed in helping the immediate recovery of food production capacity of 16,500 vulnerable farming and fisher households affected by typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng in the Cordillera region and Region I. (PIA CAR/Benguet)
