Dawagan was a squad leader while Lim was a political officer under the KLG Marco Command operating in the eastern part of Mt. Province particularly in Paracelis, Natonin, and Barlig.
According to Capt. Adonis Banez, public information officer of the 501st Brigade, said that Dawagan who is from Basao, Tinglayan joined the NPA in 2003 while Lim from San Pedro,Laguna joined the group in 2009 while she was a student.
The duo surrendered two M16 Armalites and a Harris radio.Banez said the radio transceiver was traced to soldiers ambushed July last year in Samoki, Bontoc, Mt. Province.
Banez said the surrender of the couple was facilitated by relatives of Dawagan who were concerned about their marriage and worried on the future of their would-be children.
An initial P20,000 assistance was given to the couple while other privileges are being worked out through the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Office of the Presidential Assistant on Peace Process. The remaining amount on immediate assistance of P10,000.00 due them will be released soonest, he said.
He said the surrenderees are undergoing debriefing.
Banez said the couple reportedly surrendered due to leadership struggle within the NPA ranks and due to the hardship they experienced living with uncertainty specially now that they have a responsibility as a family. (PIA-CAR/Kalinga)
