BAGUIO CITY, April 2 – Bureau of Internal Revenue Cordillera (BIR-CAR) Regional Director Atty. Eduardo Bajador is reminding the tax-paying public to pay their taxes as the April 15 deadline is just about two weeks away.
“I advise the taxpayers to proceed to the filling centers as early as possible for them to avoid the long queue and of paying penalties. They can go to any BIR district or provincial revenue offices and if they have problems our personnel are very willing to help and assist them,” Bajador said.
Meanwhile, Bajador expressed optimism that BIR CAR will achieve a better revenue collection this 2011. He affirmed that from January to March, they already have a collection of P687 Million, which is better by about 12.95 percent compared to their P608 million collection during the same period last year. “The P687 Million is still a tentative figures as we still have uncollected reports,” Bajador added.
For the increase in revenue collection, Bajador credits better taxpayer’s confidence and efforts of our revenue district officers, as well as on the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign.
The 2011 target of BIR-CAR stands at the P3.08 Billion, which is a reduced target compared to the P3.2 Billion in 2010. According to Bajador, the reduced target is mainly because the large taxpaying companies, Texas Instrument (TI) and Moog, will now remit their taxes at the BIR national office under their Large Taxpayer Service program.
In ensuring a better collection this year, Bajador also affirmed that they will continue to enhance their IEC campaign especially to the sectors that have not yet been reached by the tax campaign. He stressed they are looking forward for an improve collection on excise tax on mineral products and quarrying resources especially from small scale mining.
“We already started our IEC campaign on the small scale mining sector so as to inform them that they have tax obligations and we will also be gathering data to know who are those involved in the said sector,” Bajador said.
For other tax campaign strategies, Bajador said they still have their ‘Premyo Sa Resibo’ (PSR), wherein two people from Baguio/Cordillera have already won one million each under the said program.
In addition, the BIR is also continuously going after tax delinquent individuals and establishments. According to Bajador, at present they have forwarded two tax evasion cases to their national office for review. *(PIA CAR)
