Tabuk to celebrate founding anniversary, Matagoan fest

TABUK CITY, Kalinga– The city government of Tabuk has finally bared its 2011 Matagoan Festival activities and 4th Founding Anniversary scheduled for June 22 to June 25.
This year’s 10th Matagoan (meaning zone of life) Festival theme is “Timpuyog ti umili: Pagbiagan ken pagdur-asan (Unity among people: Source of Life and Progress)."
Providing another venue for local entrepreneurs to market and showcase their products, the city government, in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry and the local entrepreneurs, will open the 2011 Matagoan Agro-Industrial Fair and Tourism Fair on June 22.
A contest on the singing of the Tabuk Hymn and the Talentadong Tabukeño will also be held during the day.
The 23rd of June will be highlighted with the launching of the OTOP (One Town One Product) Showroom Center and the Tourism Information and Assistance Center.
Dubbed as the Agro-industrial and Tourism Day, the day’s events include the agro-indigenous games, Pinaka contest, and city tour to be concluded with the Talama Sunset viewing in the late afternoon.
The founding anniversary on June 24 will start with a civic parade, tree planting of the youth sector, and ecumenical services. Guests of honor will be Congressman Manuel S. Agyao and National Irrigation Administration Chief Antonio Nangel.
This will also be the day for the Culinary Festival and the Drum and Lyre Competition.
June 25 is the Cultural Day to start with the 2011 Matagoan Run in the early morning where the marathon competitors are expected to traverse the more or less five-kilometer road from Bulanao to Dagupan.
Another highlight is the cultural street dancing in the morning and the “Natagoan di tago” Cultural Presentation in the afternoon. An invitational white water rafting and trekking and tour at the Banga-banga falls will also be conducted.
Councilor’s League of the Philippines president Vanessa Lacsamana Salic who is more popularly known as Alma Moreno and Kalinga Governor Jocel Baac will grace the day’s event. *(GGD-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
