NSO extends data collection on business, industry survey

By Peter A. Balocnit
TABUK CITY, Kalinga, June 11 (PIA) - - The National Statistics Office (NSO) has extended the conduct of the Census on Philippine Business and Industries as survey teams had difficulty collecting data.

The survey started April 1 and was expected to finish May 31, Avelino Cadalig of NSO Kalinga and Apayao Field Office said. However, the survey deadline was extended to June 15 because business firm owners were not available when visited by NSO personnel.

He said target respondents also have no bookkeeper or accountant to supply the needed information in the questionnaire. “Our survey teams are back to the field to complete the census,” Cadalig said.

The NSO is also doing the manual processing of the 2012 census on agriculture and fisheries before submission to the NSO regional office for scanning.

Cadalig said they are all hands on for the editing, matching, coding, and verification of data gathered. “Data that need correction are being brought back by NSO’s contact field men for necessary changes,” he said.

After the provincial NSO is finished with its task, data will be forwarded to NSO regional office for scanning and back to the province for encoding. It will again go back to the region for further machine editing, Cadalig said. (JDP/PAB-PIA CAR,Kalinga)
